The Personal Costs of Obesity

People who are overweight and obese face many difficulties their normal weight peers do not. Frequent doctor visits are a fact of life for overweight and obese people, due to the development of weight-related disorders such as diabetes and osteoarthritis. Along with the daily difficulties associated with these diseases, the overweight or obese person may be personally affected financially as a result of weight-related expenses and reduced income.

Felt Furniture Protectors

The personal consequences and costs of obesity are serious, and the personal financial cost great. Multiple studies have shown that obesity significantly negatively affects personal and working relations, wages, and advancement, particularly for females.

Felt Furniture Protectors

While the health problems as the overweight/obese age may ravage savings, an overweight/obese person may have difficulty accumulating those savings in the first place. One of the earliest sociological studies of the overweight, in 1966, found that the heaviest students had a harder time getting into top colleges. The obese, particularly white women, are paid less. A study by Cornell University found that a weight increase of 64 pounds above the average for white women was associated with 9 percent lower wages.

I can personally attest to the ceiling placed on the obese; the jobs that are available to you based on your talents and abilities are often not received; there can be pattern of coming in second in interviews. This is particularly so when the job involves social context or a large amount of meet and greet.

Overweight people may or may not spend more than normal-size people on food, but their life insurance premiums are two to four times as large. They can expect higher medical expenses, and they tend to make less money and accumulate less wealth in their lifetimes. They can have a harder time being hired, and then a harder time earning promotions. People carrying as little as 30 to 40 pounds extra can be seriously affected.

In 2004, The Obesity Society created a Task Force on weight which found accumulating evidence of clear and consistent bias, stigmatization, and in some cases discrimination, against obese individuals in three areas of living: employment, education, and health care. They also reported that recent studies have documented automatic negative associations with obese people among health professionals and among obese individuals themselves.

In addition to the negative financial impact that excess weight carries, there is also impact on quality of life. People who are severely overweight may have difficulty performing simple daily tasks, such as tying shoes or walking up a flight of stairs. Many obese people have trouble sitting in, or can not trust the weight limit of, standard furniture. It becomes difficult to go to restaurants or theaters, or to utilize public transportation. Many bathroom facilities would be inaccessible to the obese were it not for the availability of the much larger handicap stall. While I was able to use the regular stalls when I weighted a little over 300 pounds, which is certainly obese but not gargantuan, there were many that were on the small size, and getting in and turning around to shut the door was awkward, if not difficult.

Think about all the places you might not go if you had to be worried about fitting in, or not breaking, the chairs; think of all the places that have booths, which have fixed distances from the table. Consider the size of the average subway turnstile. Go window shopping and mentally buy several stylish items; then go to one of the plus size departments or stores and try to replicate the satisfaction you had mock shopping in your size range. Tie a few gallon water jugs to yourself and see what it is like to sit in your own furniture.

If you are really looking to get an inkling of the reality, fill the jugs with water and carry in your groceries. Water weights about eight pounds a gallon, so you can see what it is like at 50 pounds overweight, 100, 150. I doubt many of us could handle carrying around enough jugs to bring our weight up to the 500, 600 or higher that some people live with; the obese put the weight on over time so tend not to realize just how much weight they are asking their backs and knees to support. There is no way to truly feel what it is like physically to be obese: things like raw inner thighs from chaffing and permanent raw indentations from bra straps can not be duplicated.

These problems may seem trivial to some, but they represent serious, multi-layered difficulties that can have both a cumulative and a rippling effect. If you are afraid you might not be able to use facilities, long shopping trips become less inviting. If your size affects your lung capacity, you may have trouble sleeping, which can affect your performance at work, which in turn may worsen the experience of day-to-day financial strains. So might the ability to keep up, literally.

Duke University Medical Center researchers reported in 2004 that obesity significantly impairs the sexual quality of life. Obese people report sexual problems such as lack of desire, lack of enjoyment, avoiding sex, and performance difficulty at a much higher rate than people of normal weight.

Overweight and obese people are frequently stereotyped as emotionally impaired, socially handicapped, and as possessing negative personality traits. Evidence of discrimination is found at virtually every stage of the employment cycle, including selection, placement, compensation, promotion, discipline and discharge, according to research presented by Western Michigan University. In addition, this bias extends to job assessments of overweight individuals in their various work related roles, both as subordinates and co-workers.

According to recent studies, wages of mildly obese white women were 5.9 lower than standard weight counterparts; morbidly obese white women were 24.1 percent lower. In contrast to females, the wages of mildly obese white and black men were higher than their standard weight counterparts. Men only experienced wage penalties at the very highest weight levels.

The potential effect of applicant weight, age, sex and race on ratings of job candidate acceptability in a laboratory setting was examined in 1988. Overweight candidates were rated significantly lower, but none of the other criteria manipulations had a significant effect. Michigan is the only state that prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of weight.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal statute that protects qualified individuals with disabilities from discrimination on the basis of disability in the workplace. Since the enactment of the ADA, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has taken the position that people who are morbidly obese (body weight more than 100 percent over the norm) are disabled and protected under the ADA. This leaves a huge number of obese, but not morbidly obese, unprotected in forty-nine of fifty states. It also puts those who do qualify under obligation to bring an ADA law suit to rectify a qualifying situation. And you still have to prove it was discrimination due to obesity.

Compared to normal weight people, morbidly obese and massively obese people are more likely to incur instances of institutional and day-to-day interpersonal discrimination. Morbidly obese and massively obese persons report lower levels of self-acceptance than normal weight persons, yet this relationship is fully mitigated by the perception that one has been discriminated against due to body weight or physical appearance: a more palatable reason psychologically than character or personality defect, or a job not well done.

Unflattering portrayals of obese people pervade popular culture, while multiple studies document that children, adults, and even health care professionals who work with obese patients hold negative attitudes toward overweight and obese persons. Twenty-eight percent of teachers in one study said that becoming obese is the worst thing that can happen to a person; twenty-four percent of nurses said that they are repulsed by obese people.

Obese people who believe that their health care providers look down upon them may avoid seeking care; this reaction is potentially dangerous given that obese individuals are at an elevated risk for many health conditions.

Research conducted over the past 40 years shows that obese people are viewed as physically unattractive and undesirable. Obese individuals also are viewed as responsible for their weight due to some character flaw such as laziness, gluttony, or a lack of self-control and self respect. Obese persons may form negative self-evaluations as a reaction to the pervasiveness of negative attitudes toward obese persons and real or perceived discriminatory treatment.

Interpersonal consequences of severe obesity are most acute for members of higher socioeconomic strata. A number of studies suggest that upper-middle class Americans are less likely to be obese, more likely to adopt negative views toward the obese, and more likely to view thinness as an ideal body type; the belief that obesity is a consequence of laziness may be particularly common among those with richer resources and opportunities. Physical appearance and putting forth a positive image of your employer also may be a more critical aspect of job success in professional occupations than in blue-collar or service occupations. In all of our surveys, the only striking difference in obesity statistics was a drop in the obesity percentages in the shopping playgrounds of the wealthy.

The Employment Law Alliance (ELA) released findings from its America at Work Opinion Poll portending a rise in lawsuits alleging employment related obesity discrimination. The survey found 47 percent of obese Americans believe they have suffered discrimination in the workplace, while 32 percent think obese employees less likely to be respected and taken seriously in the workplace. Nearly 40 percent of those who identified themselves either as obese or overweight contend they deserve special government protection against weight-based discrimination in the workplace, though only 26 percent of individuals of normal weight echoed that contention.

Studies show that overweight and obese students, especially girls, are less likely than the non-obese to be accepted by the more competitive colleges. This is true even if their grades, standardized test scores, and other variables are the same as for other boys and girls.

Overweight people are less likely to attend college even though they score high on standardized tests and are academically motivated. Also, overweight women are more likely than other men or women to pay their way through college.

Overweight students are more likely to be refused letters of recommendation from faculty members.

There has been some change in the practices regarding hiring of the obese, as so much more of the employment force has become obese there is not often an option. Look at the number of employees you see in stores and businesses in a day, and you will notice that there are more obese employees than there were when you were a child. But it does not remove the ceiling or reduce the promotion restrictions that shadow the obese.

A study of 1200 doctors revealed that, although physicians recognized the health risks of obesity and perceived many patients as overweight or obese, they did not intervene as much as they thought they should, were ambivalent about how to manage obese clients, and were unlikely to refer them to weight loss programs. Only 18 percent of physicians reported that they would discuss weight management with overweight patients, and only 42 percent of physicians would have this discussion with mildly obese patients. I have lived and worked in five states in my lifetime, and have had jobs in six different counties in California, so I have had many different primary physicians in my adult lifetime, and I can tell you that most never broached the subject of my weight, and the few who did merely remarked that I should lose some.

In a 1969 survey of physicians, obese patients were described as weak-willed, ugly, awkward, and self-indulgent. In a more recent physician survey, one of three doctors said they respond negatively to obesity, behind three other diagnostic/social categories: drug addiction, alcoholism, and mental illness. A survey of severely obese patients found that nearly 80 percent reported being treated disrespectfully by the medical profession.

Physicians are not immune to obesity. Ironically, physicians report fifty percent of their physician colleagues are obese. The Physicians' Health Study reported that 44 percent of male physicians are overweight, and 6 percent are obese. Although there are no published data on obesity in female physicians, the Nurses' Health Study demonstrated that 28 percent of female nurses in the United States are overweight, and 11 percent are obese.

Researchers at the Mayo Clinic recently released the results of a survey of more than 2,500 obese patients who went to their doctor for a regular checkup over the course of a year. They found that only one in five of those people were listed on their charts as obese.

Discussing weight becomes even more complicated with children. According to a 2005 study in the Journal of Pediatrics, doctors diagnosed obesity less than 1 percent of the time among 2 to 18 year olds, a figure far below the one-third of young Americans struggling with overweight and obesity.

Among physicians, 17 percent reported reluctance to provide pelvic exams to very obese women, and 83 percent indicated reluctance to provide a pelvic exam if the patient herself was hesitant. Given that overweight women may hesitate to obtain exams and that physicians are reluctant to perform exams on obese or reluctant women, many overweight women may not receive necessary medical attention or preventive care.

Overweight and obese people get waited on more slowly than normal weight customers. They often encounter more difficulty making returns or exchanges than their thinner counterparts. When I was obese, sales people rarely asked to assist, and I often felt I had to track someone down; I assumed this was a general condition of the loss of the ethics of service of the old days. One thing I noticed when I became a size 4 was that sales people began to come up to me and ask if they could be of help much more frequently.

Results of a study by the North American Association for the Study of Obesity revealed that obese children were liked less and rejected more often by peers. Obese boys encounter more overt victimization (verbalteasing or physical aggression) and obese girls reported more relational victimization (cruelty by friends and cliques) compared with their average-weight peers.

Obese girls were also less likely to date than their peers. Both obese boys and girls reported being more dissatisfied with their dating status compared with average-weight peers. The results suggest that obese adolescents are at greater risk for mistreatment by peers and may have fewer opportunities to develop intimate romantic relationships; this may contribute to the psychological and health difficulties frequently associated with obesity; during adolescence, a time of rapid change in body shape and size as well as dynamic interactions with peers and parents, weight control is a particularly sensitive issue.

Recently school nurses reported being more likely to label obese children as sad and lazy. They overwhelmingly agreed with the statement Childhood obesity is a significant cause of peer rejection. Another recent study found that children who are obese are absent from school more than other children, missing an average of two more days than their non-obese peers. Interestingly, obesity seems to predict absenteeism more than any other factor, including school performance and socioeconomic status, two of the top reasons cited in the past for poor attendance. As a former public school teacher (at both elementary and high school levels, and as an principal and superintendent of schools pre-K-12), I can tell you that the number of days of school missed severely effects a child's learning, and can carry forward in terms of lesser jobs and less pay for the rest of the life of a child. That is a steep personal cost.

Social attitudes towards obesity are negative and usually result in the adolescent becoming withdrawn and isolated. Obese adolescents have feelings of low self-esteem, social isolation, feelings of rejection and depression and a strong sense of failure. Obese children are more likely to engage in high-risk behaviors such as smoking,or consuming alcohol. Obese adolescent girls are more likely to become sexually active at a younger age in an effort to achieve acceptance and attention.

The prejudice associated with obesity is intense. Fat teenagers are often disregarded and subjected to ridicule. Most comments about fatness have negative consequences. Young people are often humiliated and frequently suffer permanent emotional scars. Fat people become tired of being judged by weight first and personality second. Adolescent girls who are dissatisfied with their bodies frequently try to lose weight in unhealthy ways, including skipping meals, fasting, and smoking to ward off hunger. A smaller number of girls are even resorting to more extreme methods such as self-induced vomiting, diet pills, and laxative use. Strict food denial in an effort to lose weight often leads to late afternoon or evening binging episodes. More than one-third of obese individuals in weight-loss treatment programs report difficulties with binge eating. This type of eating behavior contributes to feelings of shame, loneliness, poor self-esteem, and depression, and these feelings in return can spur additional eating as a means of solace.

In a study by the University of California, San Diego, researchers were surprised to find that the scores of obese children on a quality of life survey were as bad as cancer patients in every domain of life.

One obesity study asked severely obese persons to take a forced-choice questionnaire; for each question, they had to make a choice between being at their present weight or having some other given illness. The results were astounding. Although there were some variations on some of the questions, every obese person said that they would rather be blind or have one leg amputated than be at their present heavy weight. Most interestingly, every person who participated in the study would rather be a poor thin person than a morbidly obese millionaire.

Little wonder that depression is commonly linked with obesity, and, having been overweight and obese from age 5 to 50, I can personally attest that this chapter understates the multitude and magnitude of the true personal costs of obesity.

How Burglar's and Thieves View Your Home and Property

Before we get into the topic at hand. I will give you a little background information on myself. I have worked in Law Enforcement over the last 37 years. Prior to entering the Law Enforcement field, I was employed by a National retail chain as a Loss Prevention Officer. Promoted to a Manger of Loss prevention, for that same National Retailer. I was employed for three years in loss prevention prior to entering the Law Enforcement field. I was deemed an expert witness in our local court, concerning retail theft. The California Department of Correction hired me as a Correctional Officer, or guard if you like that better. I was promoted to a Correctional Counselor and held that job for three years at Salinas Valley State prison. As a Correctional Counselor part of my job required me to read an inmate's records. These records contained all the inmate's criminal files and court documents. In addition to reading their record file, I also interviewed them and was surprised at how forth right many were when discussing their criminal history and crimes they had committed. Due to confidentiality I can not relay specific information regarding anyone of those files, but can generalize, based on the accumulation of the information I had access to. Over the years, I estimate that I have interviewed about 2,400 inmates about their crimes, how they did it, why, and what did they look for while choosing their victim's.

Felt Furniture Protectors

I have divided these types of criminals into three categories:

Felt Furniture Protectors

1. Professional, career criminals.

2. Criminals looking for a career.

3. Drug user's and spur of the moment criminals.

Professional criminals are very intelligent. Their goal is to steal or take the smallest, most profitable property, with a minimal risk of exposure or being caught. They will relocate, change their method of operation, vary the types of items targeted, and change their appearance and demeanor. These are your professional robber's, burglar's, and scam artist's. As many of them have said, their is nothing that they can't steal. No security system or device they can not beat, or circumvent. The only thing that alarms, locks and bars do, is delay their entry. The longer it takes them to defeat any security system the more likely they will be caught. The professional wants to know what items of value are at your residence or business. How easy will it be to convert non cash items to cash, and the lay-out and security involved. They will take up to several weeks to gather this information, if the value of the items are right. They will first look for a nice area, clean large home's, expensive car's. They will dress up as a jogger, as not to bring attention to them selves, and will jog when most people are leaving for work. They will evaluate the potential victim's according to, how they are dressed, expensive suit, shoes, watches, vehicles, condition of garage, cluttered or neat and orderly. They will begin their list of potential victims. Several days later, they will appear walking a dog.

This gives them more time to check the area out. Verify security systems, if residence is empty or occupied. At this point they will re-evaluate their potential victim's, and cut their list down to several residence's. The next step is to gain entry to the residence to look at security systems, door's, locks and windows. Evaluate the interior of the residence, and if possible target high cost items and their locations in the home. To do this he may act as a door to door salesman, a neighbor looking for his lost dog, a person doing a local survey. They will appear as anything, that will not arouse suspicion and be in character with the targeted area. He will again evaluate his potential victims and decide which residence or business he will victimize. Many of these individuals do not see themselves as victimizing people. The victim's have insurance that will cover the items taken, they suffer no loss, just the insurance companies. The professional will now devise his plan of operation. This will include going into the area, entry, items to be taken or looked for. He will estimate the amount of time he will spend in the area, inside the target, and his escape. He will next servile the target in order to set the time and date to commit his crime. In this particular case the victim did not have an alarm system, the door locks were standard, and both husband and wife left the residence by 8:15 am and did not return until 5:30pm at the earliest. The professional hired a known and trusted individual to help him. They bought jumpsuits, an only sewed on a name tag. Rented a plain truck with a hydraulic system, hand trucks, and used the blankets from the motel room. At 9:00 am they drove to the residence, carrying a clipboard with a fictitious order form attached, with the victim's name and address filled out, to pick-up items. The professional approached the door, rang the door bell, waited just to make sure no one answered the door. He kicked the door in with little to no effort.

Over the next several hours they removed all the furniture, paintings, jewelery and any other items of value, loaded it in the truck. During the loading process a neighbor approached them and talked with him for several minutes, and had no idea of what was really going on. They left the residence and went directly to their broker, sold him the goods and walked away with the cash. He checked out of his room, and drove out of town before 3:00pm. This professional was arrested after robbing a coin dealer in the parking lot of a coin show. Police went to his room and were about to leave when an officer noticed a gold coin on the floor under a chair. He received 8 years in prison got out after 41/2 years, with good-time. Approximately 6 months later I saw him back in prison. He received a term of 18 months for the illegal transportation of firearms. When he was caught he immediately plead guilty, as the courts had not received his prior record. Eighteen months instead of 11 years, a good trade any day of the week. When asked what his crime to arrest ratio was, he said, about 100 to 1. He plans to be caught once out of every 100 crimes he commits. He was arrested as an adult about 10 times. How many victims was that?

The second group, criminal's looking for a career. Usually, these guy's fall into the area of gang member's or want-to-be's. They are looking for a quick way to make money and are usually taught by a friend or another gang member. These guy's will do a little bit of foot work before, but not nearly the amount or attention to detail of the professional. Usually, someone tells them that this house or that person has this that and the other thing, and it would be easy to take. He will usually do a drive by of the area, just to see the residence, business or victim. His friend's or other's have already told him what's there, and the approximate times the occupant's leave the residence and return, and if the residence is usually occupied or empty and if they have dogs or not. That is the extent of the plan. They may park on an adjacent street, climb fence's to get to the residence. If there is a dog, they will bring a piece of meat with them. If the dog goes for the meat, they are in, if not they leave. They will stay away from potential victims that have any type of alarm system. If they can't pry the window open, they will break it and unlatch it to gain entry. Upon entry they will look for cash, credit cards, jewelery, small electronics and guns. If they can't carry it they will look for a pillow case to put it in. They'll leave, being careful not to be seen. They will keep what they want and usually sell the rest to friends or anyone on the street willing to buy it. These guy's ratio is about 20 to 1. They believe that the victims have insurance and that they have money any way, it really doesn't matter.

The third group, drug user's and spur of the moment thieves. These guy's have no planning, no thought process. They are opportunist's, they see an item in your car in plain view, they break the window and take it. They see your garage door open and no one around, they walk in grab something and leave. Sell it for however much they need for their drug of choice. These guy's are the same one's that will shoplift, cigarettes, alcohol, or any store item they can walk in, grab, and get out. In California for awhile, before the law making a petty theft a felony if the suspect had a prior conviction, shoplifting was the drug abuser's crime of choice. A year or less in county jail, no problem. They would use their wife, girlfriend her kid's, his kid's, anything it did not matter. When I worked as a parole agent, a parolee's wife called me the week before Christmas, told me where he was at, that he had dope and stolen credit cards. After we arrested him I asked the wife why she had called and wanted him arrested. She explained that he had started using drugs again. That last year he was out and using drugs. Prior to Christmas, me kicked in the back door, to make it look like a burglary, and took the kid's Christmas gift's and sold them for money to get drugs. She was not going to let him do it again. These guy's have a ratio of about 10 to 1.

The question now is, how to protect yourself and your property? You could spend ,000.00's of dollars, which most of us don't have, or you can evaluate what you stand to lose, as compared to what your willing to spend. The cheapest way is to install lighting around your home. Night time burglar's don't want to be seen. Motion detector patio, and front door light's work well. Install automatic timer's on your TV and light's inside the house, make it look like someone is home. Clear bushes and shrubs away from windows and doors, don't give them a place to hide until they decide to brake in. Remember, your doors and locks are only as good as the molding around the door. I have broken open several door's looking for suspects and it is surprising how easy it is to kick in a door with a standard dead bolt. The longer the dead bolt the better, the more secure the area it's latched into, the harder it is to brake open.

The cheapest and best way I have seen to secure a door, is to drill a hole into the concrete foundation in front of the inside of your door, and put a steel rod that is about 1/2 inch in diameter, and eight to ten inches in length. It has to be as close to the door as possible. The only problem is you can't use it unless your inside the house. A good quality security door is worth it's weight, keep it a light color it's more difficult to see inside the house. Patio doors and sliding windows, the only thing you can do is buy a cylindrical piece of wood about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in diameter or a size that will fit snugly into the sliding window or door's track, cut it so that one end is against the metal frame of the door/window and the other is snugly against the window or door that slides. If you want to leave a window or door cracked, just cut the wooden rod shorter. Not to short, you don't want a skinny Meth-head to squeeze his way in. Again the problem with windows and patio door's is, all they have to do is break them.

Now you ask, Terry what do you have around your house. Well, that is not a fair question, due to my employment history, my work with gangs, and the fact that on several occasions criminals have let me know that they know where I live. That a present was left for me in my back yard, which consisted of a head and body of a cat that had been cut off, after the cat's death, and delivered via air mail, to my backyard patio door. I am a tad paranoid, but to answer the question. When I purchased my home they installed a security system on all exterior door's and window's. Inside I have motion detectors, that cover the living-room area and bedroom doors. I started having problems with a little want to be gang member that lives down the street, so I went on line and found an 8 camera outdoor security system, with a DVD recorder and back-up. The camera's have Infer-red system for fifty feet. Now I checked around and the same system would have cost me about ,500.00 to ,500.00 to have it installed. Now, I am not a do-it yourself kinda guy. In fact, every-time I use a hammer, I loose a finger nail and go thru a short period of extreme pain. With that in mind and the aid of my son, we installed everything with in a day and a half, and it works great. I also have a small dog, a Bichon Frise, he's very small but is a very good watch dog. His bark will wake-up the next door neighbors. I know what your thinking, here comes the sale's pitch. Nope, your wrong. Call up the security service's in your area and get a quote, search on line and get a quote. Then make an informed decision on what you want. The whole idea of security is to increase the time it takes a crook to get in and out of you home or business, and draw as much attention to him as possible either before, during or after.

Additionally, about 31 year's ago my home was burglarized. I lost several credit cards and two handguns. The burglar was my next door neighbor's son, a drug addict. Luckily, one of the guns was returned about 6 months later and the other hasn't shown up yet. The point is, it wasn't the credit cards I worried about. It was the guns, if they had been used to kill anyone, it would have been on my conscience forever. The biggest impact on me and my family was no longer being safe in your own home. It's like wearing someone else's underwear, it just doesn't feel right. It actually took me about two years before I felt safe in my own home. That is the reason I believe that burglary is and should be considered a serious crime, due to the psychological impact it has on it's victim's.

I hope this article will be of use and that you were able to learn something that will help protect your family and property.

21 Reasons Why All The Ladies Refuse You Sex

Hello my Young man and may be ladies, I find it really funny when most guys run up to me complaining to me of having a sexless relationship with their spouse as if I am an agony aunt; or maybe I have the magical wand that I'll use to convince these ladies to yield in to their canal demands.

Felt Furniture Protectors

On the other hand, I wonder if these guys have really sat back and wondered why any right thinking lady in a relationship will want to deny his man of sex, when sex if well done is an act to be enjoyed by two consenting adults; but looking back in retrospect and using my self as a case study, because I've had my own share of sexual conquest (if that is what I should call it), I'll want to look at why and how we succeed with the ladies, why other guys think hard of their hard fortunes.

Felt Furniture Protectors

So sit back as I list out close to 21 reasons why the ladies decide to deny you of satisfying and relieving your canal desires.

• Cleanliness is next to Godliness: this is rather an unfortunate thing for most guys. Guys who have mouth odor, body odor, smelling feet, smelling armpit, and bumps at the back of their head etc are regarded as scarecrows by the ladies, and as such should be avoided at all cost, so for you to attract any lady, especially those ones who know what they want from their men; then you must be clean. Recently, I came across a guy who was wondering why he got booted out of the house by his woman, this guy Was handsome, cool and worked three jobs to get the bills paid, but with all these strife and hard work, he was not deemed fit to grace the bed of his fair lady, on close observation I immediately found out that the said guy was a complete dirty pig, who hid his dirty boxers underneath the mattress she and this lady, who happens to be the owner of the apartment shared. The bad thing about the whole thing was that this guy who never washed his undies had genital warts, which she passed on to this beautiful lady; this infuriated her, and she decided that enough was enough, and got his dirty butt kicked out of her apartment, pathetic but well deserved, (apologies to my guys), so guys get a clue from this and get your personal hygiene up to acceptable levels.

• Be bold and ask, " For ask and ye Shall Receive": This happens to be reason number two, after carrying out my research; I've come to discover that most guys who complain of being refused sex by their ladies have in actual sense never asked. In a conventional world, it is improper for a lady to make sex advances to the man, rather it is the man who should. But most of these guys or "crying babies" who go on complaining of being refused sex, do not muster enough courage to stake claim to what is perceived as rightfully theirs. When you lack the courage or is it the desire to ask, then don't blame the lady and term it that she is refusing you sex, think twice.

• No Money, no Action: all what we of the male gender ever think of is monetizing life, do we at times think of monetizing our relationships? On the other hand if you are not any of the above categories, as a guy don't you know that for you to win this lady's heart and beneath, then you need some dough to do that, yes we need deep pockets not most of the times, but all of the time before you can consider any lady to accept your demands.

• Good Looks dude, or you may look else where Please: This is very hard to believe especially to those guys who are not endowed with good looks, guys who have pot-bellies, bald heads, stunted growth (sorry shorties) and more: but even at that you can still enhance your looks and get the ladies wetting their pants for you, this is true, as I know of a guy, my friend actually whose physical looks could be described as one who had some relations with the chimps who live in the deep forests of the Amazon Jungle. But this guy knowing of his inadequacy, strive hard to enhance his looks, he took exercises, employed some" look- good" routine he read from the books and so many things which I can not list out here: and before you can spell H-A-N-D-S-O-M-E, this guy became a hot item for the ladies, one very difficult to resist and equally hard to refuse sex. So guys try very hard in improving your looks, stop unhealthy eating habits that could result in having pot bellies, drink sufficient water to help improve the look of your skins, create time for exercise and above all stay trim.

• He does Drugs, I can't stand you Junkie: Hi there my young man, do you do drugs? Well if the answer is yes, then you need to start cleaning your acts or get used to being refused sex all the times, because real Ladies abhor guys who do drugs. Drug addiction is a rather unfortunate thing, and many times I have seen it not just destroying relationships, but destroying homes. Many times women complain of spousal rape, violence and battery; this is as a result of drug addiction by the man; and the lady in the bid to salvage some pride for herself either moves out of the room or out of your life. In the case of the former, moving out of the room means no sex. This is the more reason you must learn to kick the habit. Register for rehab, talk to a psychologist, stick to your recovery routine, and when you recover, do some heart-to-heart talk with her and soul mending acts to win her confidence and trusts back.

• Oh, you Smell of Alcohol, another Hang over I cannot Stand In the Morning: A wild night out with the boys will always result to getting drunk dude, and when you get drunk you have a breath reeling of alcohol which many ladies really can't stand. I remember when I was having some drinking problems, though it was not addiction, I had issues with my girl friend of then. She was constantly complaining of my new found habit (which to me was not a habit), she told me without mincing words, that if I do not get to do something about this new found love for the bottle, then she'll have no option but to employ harder measures, and by harder measures you know what I mean. So this made me get up and walk this habit off that was almost ruining the beautiful thing we shared.

• Whoa! You are so small. I don't think you can satisfy me: Well ladies this is a poser to you all. Does size matters? I recently asked a female friend this same question, and her response was that size meant every thing. So for this reason, many women can cite this as an excuse to refuse you of sex. The female psychology about sex is that for there to be some sort of participation, then the penetration has got to be deep and satisfactory, which a less endowed guy can achieve. But other than that, I think the issue of size should not be an excuse for any lady to deny her partner of sex. I asked a gynecologist this question, and she explained to me that the female anatomy is built in the way to accommodate any size be it small or jumbo sized manhood, and also the outer most part of the female reproductive organ (the clitoris) is where sexual satisfaction is most felt; so this is good news for those guys that are less endowed. But aside this, you need to work on the psyche of your lady before and during sex, get her in the act through fore-play, talk sexy and ensure you get her in the mood, as I assure you when you both get to cloud nine, the issue of size will matter less, believe me.

• Hey you Talk much; my Secret is not Save with you: So many ladies will love a suave young man, but a lousy one is out of range for them. Ladies hate men who talk too much the "kiss-and-tell kinda guy, as they see you as the type who will give a vivid description and detail of every thing you do with them in bed. To so many ladies, this is very embarrassing and unacceptable. Ask Brittney Spears, Paris Hilton and maybe Kim Kardashian; they'll tell you more. So when a lady spots this trait in you, she will rather save herself the embarrassment and heart ache that will follow by doing what she deems right, which is totally refusing you SEX!

• You are not my class, Get Lost Dude: The issue of class will always come to play; many ladies will love to have a puffy Jay-z (no offense meant Miss Beyonce Knoles or is it Mrs Jay-Z), than a broke ass prince charming with no good education and no cash. This is why most celebrity relationship are more on a contractual arrangement, one you will regard as a union of convenience rather than love. Ladies love intelligent and rich men, one they'll be proud to go out on open dates with, frolic on the beach wearing bikini and so on; this does not mean that as a lower class guy, you do not stand the chance of winning a lady of class no; all you need to do is to step up your game player, if you are not so schooled, see how you can improve your self, in the area of finance, work harder, there's nothing that weakens a lady and makes her let down her guards as a hardworking, good-looking and intelligent young man. This is why you see a common employer marrying the boss's daughter, a case that comes to mind is the marriage between the daughter of the 9th richest man (according to Forbes magazine) Mr. Mittal giving away his daughter to a young man I consider his employer. This young man could only achieve this by being real and walking the walk.

• I saw you stealing a glance at my best friend: this you could consider as the flimsiest of excuses most ladies employ to refuse their man of sex, but I have seen this happen over and over again. Most ladies knowing you have it hots for their friend will rather keep their legs tight, than have you take both her and her friend; this issue is out for debating, and I will love to hear what the ladies have to say about this.

• Oh those Menstrual cramps are up Again: another flimsy excuse ladies use to refuse you sex, a lady did this to me I can authoritatively reveal to you my fellow gents their tactics is placing a sanitary pad, just to pretend that they have their monthly cycle running, but my guy, you need to further investigate your self, know her regular cycle, count the days her flows starts and stops, understand her body, or she will use this method to refuse you sex for as long as I can remember, trust me.

• Work, work and more Work: most guys dating career ladies are a victim of this unfortunate situation, where their work comes in between you and them. Many guys have been refused sex continuously in the bid to respect her and her work. The ploy here is that she comes back from work, and you are at home cooking the meals and washing the dishes, the moment she comes home, she hugs you, gives you a light peck, and heads to the shower, and then to bed. When you join her, she complains of having a very busy schedule at work, she tells you of her company's plan to increase turn over and how she was made the head person to supervise this I know how you feel. But all you need do is either quit this relationship, or work out some thing with her through sustained dialogue, let her know you have needs and so does she, for the lucky guys, she could understand, but for the unfortunate ones she might decide to quit the relationship to concentrate more on her career. Which ever make sure you brace yourself up for the worst.

• Look baby boy you are not romantic, you'll bore me in there: Believe me a young woman told me this recently, she was so sure of this theory that she cited examples which I wont want to use for privacy concerns. There's this myth that if you want to know the guy who is good in bed, then you have to measure how romantic he is. There's this believe going round in lady circles that a less romantic guy will be a bore in bed; and this is one experience a lady won't want to encounter, a man who is a bore in bed. So going by this assertion (that if this is true) it is up to up your romantic instincts a little higher than is originally is. Take her out more on dates, remind her of important dates like her birthday; just be more romantic, and with time she'll get to loosen up, you can trust me on this, I know it works.

• Oh no! I am still a virgin; I'll keep it till my wedding night: many ladies will always refuse their men sex on the arrangement that you'll consummate this love on your wedding night. This is a very good idea, if she can keep to her own part of the bargain, but in most cases she's just plain using you. May be she's only interested in what your pockets hold, and other than that, you are just any cheap ass player she can fool around with.

• Your Job kinda Scares me: those guys working as morgue attendants can attest to this fact. Most ladies could refuse you sex based on the kind of career you pursue, especially if every thing about you is shady sort of, you are more of a stranger to her; remember a lady can only allow you access to her body when she feels some sense of safety. But if she's a little scared, she won't want to give you that priced possession.

• My religion frowns at premarital Sex, so I can't do it: Many relationships have packed up as a result of this, recently, I met a lady who belonged to one of those religious sects that preached end time and the kind of destruction that will befall mankind in the coming ages, I am not a religious or pious person; but I still go to church where I practice my Christian faith. I brought up the issue of sex with this lady, she gave me a look that suggested that I was asking her of some thing grave and immoral. This is not funny if you ask me. I will advise every guy to respect his lady's religious beliefs, but if it does not conforms with the realities of the moment and what you as a person believe, then I'll advise you to look else where, or more so get converted to this faith, and wait for eternity to get the taste of the pudding.

• I wonder why he still talks of his Ex, I can't yield to him: many guys fail to realize this and go on talking of their past relationships, relegating the future they should be talking about to the background, another big reason she refuses you sex. This is so because when you are busy talking about your ex, you are introducing competition which is not really needed at that time. It makes her feel threatened. She has this feeling that you still cared for this ex, and in due time you'll going back to her (which is most times the case), so she will want to save herself for some other person who will respect her as a woman, treat her like a queen, make her an idol, your fetish, make her believe that your world revolved around her. So if you are being refused sex, see if you are in the habit of talking about an ex, an ex that left you, an ex that treated you as you where some cheap piece of furniture; then forget about this ex, and think and talk more of how both of you can improve on what you already have, discuss your future plans, get to know more of each other, instead of having some idle ex talk. Do this and she won't have any reason to refuse of what you so desire. Try me, it works.

• It looks like I'm older than Him: Oh my! This is another reason why she might be refusing you sex, though most ladies can marry men younger than them, but majority of ladies prefer men older than them, in some cases old enough to be their fathers. This is so because a lady believes that she needs some level of protection which a guy far older that her can do, but with the younger guy, she feels less protected, especially if the guy in question looks like one of his junior bothers, she probably baby sit a couple of years back. Many ladies will want to argue this out with me, for example in the recent past, pop star and song diva Madonna has dated Guy and now Jesus, guys who are younger than her. We also have the case of Cameron Diaz and her ex squeeze Justin Timber lake, and of Usher and his ex, but all this relationships packed up as a result of this age incompatibility; I believe.

• He is a Player, a Casanova: though as a Casanova you'll always have a way with ladies, but not with every lady, so if she thinks you are a Casanova, and judging from the fact that she's had her fair share of heart breaks, she wont want to give you her body, because a woman sees sex differently from the way we guys see it. A lady sees it that having sex with you means that she has shared with you the most vital part of her; the woman sees sex as some thing spiritual and should be savored as such. But to a Casanova, sex is another major conquest of the female specie. So if you are a Casanova or perceived so, many ladies will refuse you sex, as they are not ready to sacrifice their most priced possession in the altar of bodily satisfaction, period!

• You are still Childish, as you still rely on your mum: Oh you still live with your mum player? Well this s another major reason why she refuses you sex, most women hate it when you always makes reference to your mum in every conversation you have with them. This is a weakness of some sort, and no lady will want to hang out with a baby-man. So if you fall in this category, this is time to grow up, if you still live with your mum, and you are old enough to have your own apartment, then it is time to strike it out on your own, if you still depend on your mum as in picking your bills, then this is the time to get up and be the man she wants. Was you grow up, she will have no option than to loosen up those strings as she wholly gives herself to you.

• I don't want him to know I'm Frigid, as I don't want to lose him: many women you wont believe me hate sex. There see sex as a tool for procreation, and not an act to be enjoyed. Many men are yet to realize this. These women want to keep you, and in any case gets you to marry them. But if you find out about this psychological problem, there are chances that you will walk out of the relationship, and this is one disappointment they can't live with. In order to avoid this, they continue to refuse you of sex, and when you finally do they will feign orgasm, moan, and wriggle falsely and so on just to simulate enjoyment. But if you are as savvy as I am, you can detect this when you are in the act, and if you love her: I wont suggest breaking up, I will advise you both see a sex counselor, that will help you both learn how to enjoy sex, and live together happily ever after, as it is in fairy tales.

These are the 21 common reasons women refuse you sex, you can feel free to add your own.

How to Wrap Furniture for Moving and Storage

Regardless if you hire professional movers or do it yourself, it is good to know how to wrap the furniture and what to expect. We sell moving supplies and often hear questions: - How many moving blankets do I need? Which moving blanket should I use and how do I wrap my furniture?

Felt Furniture Protectors

The way to wrap furniture for moving depends on specifics of your move. Is it interstate move, across the country, or local moving around the block? Loading PODS or international shipping container, or moving to long term storage?

Felt Furniture Protectors

If you are getting ready to move and concerned about safely moving your household goods this series of articles will show in details how to wrap your furniture for any large or small move. People sometimes underestimate amount of packing required for a moving job, but it is important to pack your personal belongings properly. I have been in the moving business for over 20 years, moved hundreds of families personally as a foreman and driver, and then thousands more as an owner of a moving company, both moving locally and moving interstate. I was teaching my movers the best and most efficient ways of handling and wrapping furniture, wrapping with blankets, crating, boxing, you name it.

Movers. Contrary to some statements I came across in other articles, Movers do care about your shipment, in most cases foreman is personally responsible to pay for your damages and movers also know that if something gets broken it is unlikely that they get any tips. At the same time movers do not have any sentimental attachment to your belongings and treat precious to you items as anything else. Their main goal is to secure the goods in a way that it will not break and will be easy to load. Therefore it is important to make a foreman (moving crew leader) which items require special care.

Do not expect movers to see your household goods the way you see it. The movers simply do not have time to consider how delicate each and every item might be. For example a bottle with exotic sand, layered by the color or even in a special design, will be ruined if simply laid on its side. Movers will make sure to pack the bottle that it will be safe, but they might not realize that the sand layers inside the bottle are not fixed and might mix into an ugly mess from vibration in the truck. It is true that most damage occurs while carrying, loading and unloading, but it is also true that if movers (or yourself) do not load the truck properly some items will get damaged in transit.

Word of caution about shopping for a moving company: If you have valuable furniture to move - do not look for cheap movers, look for good ones. Inexperienced movers or movers with bad reputation compete on price, not on professionalism. Good movers deserve to be paid well. As the saying goes - you get what you paid for.

Moving Packing Supplies. There is variety of packing supplies available: bubble sleeves, plate cell packing kits, foam peanuts, bubble craft etc. We are not trying to cover 100% of the packing supplies, but only the most popular that are used by movers and that you can and should expect to find in a moving truck: Blankets, Boxes, paper, bubble wrap and Shrink wrap, plastic covers. With this set of supplies you can pack and move any type of furniture, china or artwork.

Moving Blankets. Moving blankets is mover's "tool of the trade". If you are moving locally and hiring a professional moving company you should expect them to show up with blankets and you should not be charged for it. But if you are moving long distance (interstate moving) or to storage, then purchasing your own moving blankets might be a good idea. Moving Blankets can be of two major kinds: Quilted or padded moving blankets and Non-Quilted,, also called Skins or Space Savers. Each has its use. Quilted Moving blankets usually come in 72 x 80 inches size and differ depending on the outer fabric and amount of filler, the heavier the blankets the more filer they have and the more protection they offer. Cheap moving blankets are made with nonwoven outer fabric and very light filler. These blankets can be very good if you are planning to place your stuff in long term storage or a small move.

Economy moving blankets provide adequate protection and do not take much room in the storage. For long distance or interstate moving where interstate carrier charges by weight the advantage is that these blankets are much lighter than regular moving blankets. For heavy solid wood furniture, leather couches, heavy dining tables etc. it is better to get heavier, thicker blankets that will provide better protection against bumps and dents. If you move often, moving blankets with woven outer fabric much more durable moving blankets and will serve much longer. Non-quilted moving blankets can be made out of felt or burlap on one side and felt on the other. These should not be discounted especially if your main concern the furniture rubbing against each other. If you are packing your own pod, or container - you can use space savers with great success.

Another option is paper moving blankets. Paper packing blankets are constructed of two outer layers of brown kraft and three inner layers of light weight paper. The three inner layers can consist of newsprint, light weight kraft, tissue, bogus, or non woven papers. Most people are not even aware of paper blankets to be used for moving, meanwhile it is a very good alternative to quilted moving blankets, especially if you are moving only once or sending your goods to a long term storage or moving overseas. Paper blankets are breathable, provide good protection and 100% recyclable.

Boxes. Moving boxes can be single wall, such as Book boxes, Linen boxes etc. or double wall, such as China Boxes, TV boxes, Wardrobe boxes etc. Double wall boxes are much stronger and hold more weight. But please DO NOT try to load them to capacity. Loading Wardrobe box full of books is not a good idea. Name of the box is very suggestive: Book boxes (1.5 cubic feet) are for books, Small Linen boxes (3.1 c.f.) or Large Linen boxes (4.5 c.f.) are for folded clothes, towels and linen, China boxes, 5,.2 c.f. is for fragile items, and wardrobe box ( come in 10.1 c.f. or 15 c.f. and 4 ft tall) is for hanging clothes. And of course there are picture boxes, lamp boxes, mattress boxes and a whole line of all kinds of specialized boxes, corners etc.

Cushioning Materials. When you pack fragile items in a box - you need something to provide cushioning. Most popular is Bubble wrap and Blank newsprint. Blank newsprint or white paper comes in 5, 10 or 25 lbs bundles. Blank newsprint is the best for packing kitchenware, plates, china, fragile items, or simply filling empty spaces in a box. Bubble wrap come in 12 or 24 inch wide rolls and with various bubble sizes. Movers mostly use 0.5 inch bubble wrap 24 inches wide. Bubble wrap is good for wrapping electronics or large pieces of glass.

Plastic Covers. Plastic covers for moving would include Shrink wrap or stretch wrap and Plastic mattress cover, plastic sofa cover or plastic chair covers. Shrink wrap - is widely used in shipping to keep a load on a pallet together as one unit and not to allow it to fall apart or items disappear from shipment. In moving furniture shrink wrap was originally used to keep items with small parts or opening doors or drawers together. Then it became a substitute for plastic covers to wrap mattresses. It is not at all better than a plastic mattress cover, but it is more profitable for a moving company: it cost much less to buy a roll of shrink wrap, but it takes longer to wrap plus mover can charge more for each item wrapped. Movers might even wrap shrink wrap on top of furniture already wrapped in blankets. It looks good, but it is very expensive and absolutely useless. If you put your items to storage shrink wrap is actually damaging to the furniture, because it traps the moisture and the furniture can actually rot under the shrink wrap if stored long enough. I would strongly recommend using mattress covers, because even if it will be wrapped in a blanket - you do not know what was wrapped in that blanket before. And mattress is what you sleep on. Also sofas with light colored upholstery would be better off if you cover it with plastic sofa cove before wrapping in the furniture blankets. Sometimes the color bleeds off the moving blanket onto upholstery.

SUMMARY: When preparing for the move consider specifics of your move and consider the furniture you want to wrap. Need to save space? - Get space savers or paper blankets, need better protection - get premium quality thick moving blankets. Want to keep your fragile safe - pack them in double wall strong boxes with a lot of cushioning materials Want your keep furniture clean - use Plastic furniture covers. In the next article we will go over specifics of wrapping various items of furniture.
